Sharon Dirks is a recently “refocused” Minister of Pastoral Care. In other words, she is no longer officially in this role which she held for 12 years at Niagara United Mennonite Church with her husband Rudy who was Lead Pastor. Before that she and her family spent 7 years in Botswana as a church workers with Mennonite Church Canada and Africa Inter Mennonite Mission.
When the children were young, Sharon stayed home with them while volunteering at church and their school in Thornhill, Ontario while Rudy taught at Ontario Bible College (now Tyndale University).
She is currently taking an extended sabbatical as she heals from stomach cancer which caught her quite by surprise in February of this year. What a journey she and Rudy have been on! And how faithful the Lord has been!
Sharon and Rudy are parents to 3 adult children and their spouses and grandmother to 4 and another on the way. Besides resting a lot these days, you will find Sharon working in her garden; watching Rudy’s bees and chickens for hours at a time; homemaking and pursuing her passion for holistic living; or discipling and mentoring God’s people and those who are learning to become his children.
Rudy and Sharon have been married for 36 years and reside in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
